My story

My family is probably a pretty typical American family in many ways. My paternal grandfather, the son of a preacher in Mississippi, left home as a young adult before all of his many brothers and sisters were finished being born. Working as an attorney in New York City, he married a first-generation Polish immigrant and they settled in Bayonne, N.J. I can remember my grandmother telling me how her family actually went back to Poland in the late 1920s to farm when she was barely a teenager (even though her father knew nothing about farming), taking a horse-drawn cart to their rented homestead.
